Greece’s summer season begins in May and runs through to October. The first two weeks of August are when many Greeks take their holidays and while Athens may be quiet, seaside resorts are not. Temperatures frequently hit 40°C in August anyway.
Driving in Greece
Roads have improved in Greece over the past two decades and there are now decent motorways on the mainland. Drivers have to pay tolls on some motorways. Athens has motorway links to Corinth and Thessaloniki. On the islands, main routes are also of a good standard, but rural and mountain roads can be very bendy.
Speed limits in urban districts: 50kph. Motorway speed limits: 130kph. Alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5 per cent. Police are empowered to conduct random breath tests.

To change booking, a customer can just submit a modification request via the My Booking section at least 48 hours before your scheduled pick-up time. Customer can change the dates, times, location, driver details, or car type or add/remove optional extras. Though we’ll do our best to make any changes that the customer request, they aren’t guaranteed as they depend on availability and the modification policy of the supplier. Sometimes the changes may also affect
the price.
On the search results page, after entering your booking dates, a link will be displayed to that rental supplier’s rental conditions. So please enter your travel dates into the booking widget to learn more

We recommend using the filters on the result page to refine the results. Furthermore, we also have other filters to help you find the car that meets with your exact requirements. This will vary slightly from supplier to supplier. With A2S Car Rental for example, the minimum age is 25 and with DIRENT it is 23.
Most suppliers will still rent young drivers, but they will change an additional daily underage charge, again this will vary from supplier to supplier.
For exact supplier conditions and rules, please check the supplier rental terms.
Again this will vary across suppliers, for example with Green Motion the maximum age is 70, with Rent Plus it is 75. But good news for senior drivers as with Carwiz the max age is 99, but they do charge a senior driver fee applies to drivers over the age of 71.
Similar to having a minium age for car rental, suppliers also impose an upper age limit. This again will vary from supplier to supplier. With A2S Car Rent it is 71 and with DIRENT it is 75.
To further complicate matters, some of these suppliers will still rent if over the maximum age, but charge an overage driver daily fee.
Extras such as GPS may be added after you have selected your vehicle, simply tick the box beside the desired extra, price of extra will also be displayed at this stage.
The normal minimal rental is 24 hour, you may rent for a few hours but most suppliers will charge you the daily rate, Europcar offer special rate for part day rentals please enter booking times to find the best prices.
