Expert Tip for Large Groups
If you are traveling with **7 adults and 7 suitcases**, we strongly recommend opting for a 9 seater car hire such as the Renault Trafic. While 7-seater SUVs are excellent for driving, their boot space is significantly limited when all seats are in use. Choosing a larger passenger van ensures everyone travels in comfort with ample room for all luggage.
Hiring with a Debit Card in France
Most French car hire companies require a Credit Card for the security deposit. However, if you need no or low deposit car rental, use the search filters to check for availability. If a “Zero Deposit” option is not available for your dates, we can often still offer **low deposit** deals to help keep your upfront costs down.

Driving a rental minivan in France: tips and advice
France is a place with an extensive amount of different regions and driving conditions. Winter can change your conditions from feeling like spring to being stuck in the snow in a matter of hours. Most of the cities were built before motor vehicles were used, so make sure to note that larger people carriers will sometimes have difficulty navigating small French streets. The speed limit inside most cities is around 50 km/h while they can get to around 70 km/h and as low as 30 km/h. It is best to keep aware of different road signs, as speed change quite drastically from area to area.
Safety gear
Check the rental car has all the necessary safety equipment that is legally required (reflective vest, warning triangle), before setting off.
Avoid having your rental towed away
Do not park near crossings, bus stops, or solid yellow lines.
Use park and display machines
Pay-and-display machines “horodateurs” in French are everywhere, be sure to place the ticket on your dashboard.
Parking Signs
Don’t get hit with parking fines. Blue lines mark paid parking, white lines are free, and yellow is reserved (for residents, taxis, or deliveries).
Tollways
The tollways in France are marked by a red number and the letter “A” road signs (Autoroute) and “Péage”. Payment on the French tollways can be made either in cash or by credit card.
